After reviewing Time and Space — 5 stars, people! — the Literary Titan Q&A arrived in my inbox. They sent a few challenging questions, and I had to excavate my memory to be able to answer the first question. I thought I wouldn’t be able to. After all, brain injury played footsie with my memory.
Time and Space follows a woman on the verge of turning forty who, on the way to work, is kidnapped by three university-aged young men from the future and is taken forward in time to a society built on patriarchal dominance. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?“
Fortunately, long-term memories are more stable than short-term or working memory. I’d thought about the ideas behind Time and Space for so long before I wrote it that they came tumbling back to me.

I remember becoming angrier and angrier at the objectification of women and the failed promise of equality.
That’s how I began my answer to their first question. It was the central theme behind my time travel novel. But I had so much more to say about public transit, patriarchy, the commercialization of public space, and the utter noise of continual advertising. I’m grateful so many like it as much as I enjoyed researching and writing it.
