Risky: Poem A Day

Published Categorised as Poetry, Personal, Writings
Collage of brainwaves in white on black behind fingers gripping the Earth masquerading as the virus in fluorescent blues and greens.

For today’s prompt from Robert Lee Brewer of Writer’s Digest, I immediately thought of how even today, the neurostimulation and neuromodulation treatments that heal much of my brain injury, are still considered risky, unproven. They’ve only been around 40+ years, proven for 20 to heal brain damage. But, I guess, we love to watch science fiction, just not believe it’s possible.

I ran out of characters so on Bluesky, I had to reduce “onto” to “to.”

Risky

Tell someone
You have a #BrainInjury
Watch them deny

Tell someone
You need therapy
Watch them reply
With strategies and infrequent rehab

Tell someone
You desire healthy
Watch them comply
With 20th century thinking of
Abandonment treatment
As you hurl yourself onto
21st century factual healing
