Less than 24 hours now, and National Novel Writing Month, aka NaNoWriMo, begins. By this time tomorrow, I won’t have started writing. First, I got to prepare, breathe deeply, have lunch, and pray pray pray. Then I begin.
I’m both excited and a little bit terrified as NaNo-Day approaches. I’ve filled out my NaNoWriMo profile, finished my background work, polished my novel outline, printed out maps and pictures of my Toronto settings, drawn the main interior setting, written up character profiles, settled on names, yet I still don’t feel ready. I think it’s cause I’m missing the cornucopia of chocolate one needs to get through the tough days — and the easy days — of daily novel writing. I have some milk chocolate, lots of Green & Black 70% dark chocolate, a stash of vegan chocolate cookies in my freezer, some store bought chocolate vegan cupcakes, my own über-chocolaty brownies and cupcakes (also in my freezer), but I’m not sure that’s enough. I’m missing truffles, Soma chocolate toffee, Soma Dark Chocolate hot drink (got like a spoonful left, ack!); and I’m contemplating baking some blondies with chocolate chips. I forgot to buy white chocolate for that hit of sweet goodness. Luckily I have a fresh can of Cocoa Camino Dark Chocolate drink. Combined with coffee, that should get me flying high enough to write — or recover.
You can follow my word count progress on my NaNoWriMo profile and how I’m doing on Twitter. So wish me luck as I embark on this new adventure with thousands and thousands and thousands of my closest writing buddies around the world!
