Philosophy

Shireen

Your clinic is called Meditech Rehabilitation Laser Centre. What is your philosophy behind your name?

Meditech Rehabilitation

Our mission and vision for the company: to continue developing, perfecting the BioFlex Laser Therapy technology, building new treatment devices; advancing clinical research and applications for Laser Therapy by treating complex and challenging medical problems, health conditions; working on treatment protocols development by utilizing our own equipment on a daily basis at the clinic in Toronto; and making this healing modality more recognizable and accessible for many health care practitioners and patients around the world.

Diagnosis

Shireen

Objective testing best reveals the injury, unhampered by either the tester’s or client’s subjective assumptions. Which one objective test do you believe is key to giving people with brain injury the answer they’ve been seeking as to their most troubling part of their injury, and why?

Meditech Rehabilitation

We currently utilize ImPACT Applications testing, a computerized neurocognitive test administered to patients with head injuries. ImPACT testing assesses an individual’s visual and verbal memory, reaction time, and processing speed after a head injury. Having this information allows to more accurately identify cognitive deficits the patient is experiencing and return them to their “normal.” Research and empirical data support the importance of using valid and reliable tools for concussion testing and post-concussion care. ImPACT is research-backed and has received clearance from regulatory bodies worldwide.

Treatments

Shireen

Your clinic offers low-intensity laser therapy to heal brain injury and restore the person. Why do you believe every client would benefit from low-intensity laser therapy and why? How does this treatment work, both as the client experiences it in the short and long term and the science behind it?

Meditech Rehabilitation

At our clinic we offer BioFlex Laser Therapy as the form of a healing modality for cerebral concussion patients. The technology is a non-invasive, light-based therapy that uses a combination of red and infrared light in the form of superluminous light-emitting and laser diodes.

Brain injury grief is

extraordinary grief

research proves

needs healing.

Particles of energy, known as “photons,” are emitted from the diodes and absorbed by the cell membrane, numerous molecular components within the cell, the mitochondria, etc. Ultimately this process stimulates cellular metabolism in the damaged tissues. Moreover, it resolves inflammation and accelerates the healing process, resulting in the elimination of pain.

The mechanism of action involves irradiation of the cerebrospinal fluid, increasing arterial perfusion of the cerebral hemispheres and provides a potent anti-inflammatory effect, all of which reduce the symptoms caused by both the initial and delayed effects of the injury.

Support

Shireen

Collaboration and teamwork provide people with brain injury the foundation from which they can best benefit from treatments. How do you promote collaboration between all the client’s treatment providers and/or between you, them, and their support network?

Meditech Rehabilitation

At Meditech Rehabilitation Laser Centre we have a multidisciplinary team consisting of health care practitioners with knowledge and expertise in the field of Medicine, Chiropractic, Physiotherapy, Kinesiology, and Laser Therapy. Our experienced clinical staff, over the course of many years, have demonstrated great degree of professional skills in Laser Therapy treatments for concussion combined with compassion, kindness, unmatched care, and attention to patients under our care. Having this type of expertise available on our clinic’s premises creates a tailored treatment plan for patients, and the recovery process becomes more comprehensive and assuring.

Laser Therapy treatments are delivered in a very friendly, peaceful, and comfortable environment. We provide treatment rooms with ambient lighting dimmed and relaxing classical music in the background – understanding the importance that many patients with concussion will present with hypersensitivity and sensory disturbances.

Future

Shireen

Neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to change itself in real time, was first noted in the late 1700s and proposed by William James in 1890. The 20th century saw much research demonstrating this concept. And in the 1960s and 1970s, researcher-clinicians began to research and clinically apply ways to stimulate the brain’s ability to heal itself. In the last three decades, a number of solutions using neurostimulation have blossomed into reality that heal various aspects of brain injury. Which neurostimulatory treatment excites you the most in terms of what it can achieve, and which one is your clinic working towards to incorporate into your offerings and why?

Meditech Rehabilitation

As part of ongoing research and development, we’re working on creating more sophisticated and technologically advanced prototypes for cerebral/cranial applications, optimizing the dosage and intensity parameters control, perfecting the treatment strategy, and customizing the treatment course for patients individually. We feel that this innovative treatment approach has unlimited potential in treating traumatic brain injuries and are carrying on extensive research in this area.

We’re currently in the process of developing collaboration with The NeuroCatch® Platform. NeuroCatch® conducts a rapid 6-minute scan to measure and report on cognitive brain function.

It produces a report immediately after the scan to display information on three different brain responses, also known as event-related potentials (ERPs). The results of the scan provide us with objective measurements of specific brain functions: Auditory sensation; Basic attention; Cognitive processing. These measurements can be used to help identify areas for improvement, customize treatment plan for patients.

Bonus Question

Shireen

What kind of virtual assessments and/or services do you provide, if any?

Meditech Rehabilitation

We offer to our patients remote consultations and clinical support via ZOOM meetings, over the phone, and via email.

These accommodations have proven to be very effective and helpful to patients who may experience severe neurological symptoms associated with brain concussion and cannot come to the clinic in person regularly.

Connecting with other medical specialists such as a Neurologist and Physiatrist when required helps our patients to maximize their treatment outcomes and achieve their personal health goals.
