Writer’s Digest Poetic Asides blogger Robert Lee Brewer is launching for the second time a poem-a-day challenge for the month of April. Now I don’t consider myself a poet, but I thought this might be fun to do and fun to see if I could last the whole month.
Basically, every day, he posts a prompt, his poem, and then challenges his readers to write a poem based on the prompt. Participants then post their poem as a comment to his blog post. I was going to simply link to my poems in his posts, but the comments aren’t linkable! So I shall blog them here as I write them. The best part of this challenge that I like is that participants keep copyright to their poems. Unlike almost every entity on the planet, Writer’s Digest and Poetic Asides do not believe they’re entitled to our copyright just cause we’re rising to their challenge or posting on their website. Nice!
So sans further ado, here’s Poem No. 1 to the prompt “origin.”
“Life”
Sperm
Ovum
Collide
Merge
Divide.
Divide
And Divide
And Divide.
And then in coalescence, grow
Into a mammal,
An animal
Of the warm blooded persuasion,
Which embraces
Humans
Too.
