Mini Book Expo Claim, Malaysian Health Journalist, and Housekeeping News

Awhile ago, I wrote about submitting Lifeliner to Mini Book Expo. I submitted it in the hopes of getting more exposure for my book, but not really thinking that as a self-published author I had much of a chance of having Lifeliner claimed. When I received an e-mail asking me if I’d ship a copy to the US, as interest had spread beyond Canada to the US and even to the UK, I said yes. That was a no-brainer answer for me. It might be more expensive to ship outside of Canada, but more likely to snag a claim since people outside of Canada (people who don’t know me, that is) are more interested in Lifeliner than those in Canada, certainly in the Canadian press. And so I was surprised and delighted to receive an e-mail from the owner/founder of Mini Book Expo that my book had been claimed and, to my amusement, by a Torontonian no less.

Although I expect a few claimants don’t write the review that’s part of the claiming process, I’m hopeful this one will, for she keeps an up-to-date book review blog. I will be sure to keep you posted!

Continuing the good news, a journalist in Malaysia contacted me today. She’s writing an article on TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition) and my father, Dr. Khursheed Jeejeebhoy. She has read Lifeliner and was interested in one of the photos featured in the book trailer. I’ll be linking to the article when it comes live.

And lastly, in a bit of housekeeping news, I have added a few new widgets to the website for my blogs, Flickr photos, and YouTube videos. Well, things never work as planned. The YouTube widget has an on-again, off-again relationship with my site. Sometimes it pops up, showing very nicely my latest videos, and sometimes it balks, showing only the little “Get Widget” tag at the bottom and no videos. I have no idea why. But since YouTube is the only social media site I’ve come across that doesn’t have a badge that allows one to share photos/videos on one’s blog or website, I’d say it’s all YouTube’s fault. (On the other hand, that doesn’t account for why all three widgets don’t show up in Internet Explorer 6. But then I switched from IE 6 to Firefox because IE 6 is so darn slow that it looks like my website isn’t ever going to load, but it does.) I’ll figure out how to fix it later. In the meantime, hopefully, it’ll be more on-again for all of you than for me.
